Distillation column feed issues

During normal operation, the feed rate gradually decreases, whereas in the case of a sudden stop, the feed is cut off entirely. How should the steam and gas flow at the bottom of the tower, as well as the reflux flow at the top of the tower, be adjusted? I feel like something seems a bit different, isn’t it? The gas volume should decrease, while the backflow volume decreases in the former case and increases in the latter, right?
Could the original poster describe the problem more clearly? I didn’t quite understand it. :L
I mean, what should be done if the feed rate changes.
