In pressure vessel design, due to the requirements of process conditions, vessels often encounter the problem of large openings, and the \"equal area reinforcement method\" cannot be used for calculations in such cases. I previously asked experts from the Standards Approval Committee, and they explained that a \"stress analysis calculation\" is required (which is one of the three approaches mentioned in GB150), and the \"pressure area reinforcement method\" cannot be used. Currently, the strength calculation software “sw6” can still perform calculations in the case of large openings, but it does so in accordance with HG20582; in reality, it uses the \"pressure area reinforcement method\" for such calculations. This raises a question: is such a calculation recognized by the \"Capacity and Standard Committee\"? Since the calculation software “sw6” (developed by the Chemical Equipment Technology Center) has been certified by the “Capacity and Standard Committee”, will there be any issues with the calculation reports generated using “sw6”? Our large openings are calculated using SW6; it’s necessary to include units.
It is completely fine to use the large opening pressure area method of SW6 for calculating reinforcement.
There is indeed such a claim; the Standards Approval Committee does not approve the use of the pressure area method for reinforcement, yet SW6 included the pressure area method specified in HG20582. Therefore, when dealing with large openings, this method is used for calculations. Since the Standards Approval Committee has not issued an official statement rejecting the pressure area method, it’s best to act as if nothing is the case. :lol
For large openings in our institute, using SW6 for calculations poses no problem at all.
