Experts! The head material is 16MnR, and the skirt cylinder uses Q235-B. Is it necessary to add a transition section?
Generally, it’s not necessary, but if the tower temperature is below 0 degrees or above 350 degrees, it’s advisable to have a transition period.
What does that mean? When welding 16MnR and Q235, it is sufficient as long as the processes and techniques meet the required standards. Do we need to add other materials in between as an intermediate layer?
This shouldn’t be needed, right? If overall heat treatment is to be carried out, considering the addition of a transition section might be an option. However, for this material, if it is welded together and then subjected to overall heat treatment, there is no requirement regarding length, so it may not be necessary to add a transition section at all. You might want to consult your design department about this Are there any special requirements?
This is mainly to account for thermal stress; therefore, 16MnR splices should be added. When the operating temperature is below 0 degrees or above 350 degrees, the length of these splices depends on the extent of the temperature influence. Typically, the length of the short section is taken as four times the thickness of the insulation layer, and it must not be less than 500 mm. If the equipment material is stainless steel, the transition length can be set at 200–300 mm.
