Is scaling severe in the reboiler of the amine solution process for removing acidic gases? What type of reboiler is generally used in such desorption towers, vertical or horizontal? For high processing volumes, it is recommended to use a horizontal type, with steam flowing through the shell side; this helps to prevent corrosion of the equipment. If you’re worried about scale formation, increase the flow rate.
Generally, the thermosyphon principle of vertical reboilers is used, with steam flowing through the shell side. Scaling is unlikely, and it is related to the choice of absorbent, operating temperature, and solution properties.
Both vertical and horizontal types can be used; in the vertical type, steam flows through the shell side, while in the horizontal type, it flows through the tube side.
