Regarding the calculation of the total earthwork volume

In the volume calculation prior to project commencement, the grid method is used; what are the actual on-site elevation, design elevation, and construction elevation, and what is the difference between the construction elevation and the design elevation? Land leveling has requirements regarding density; are there any other requirements?
The construction elevations all use relative elevations, while the design elevations can be either relative or absolute.
