What is the maximum purity of CO2 that can be achieved after the product tower in low-temperature methanol washing? Can the sulfur content be reduced to 0.1 ppm? Which plants have successfully operated using this method? If I want to use this CO2 for methanol synthesis, what additional measures are needed? Please suggest some options
By adding CO2 in the low-temperature methanol wash, the CO2 purity at the outlet of the CO2 product tower can reach up to 99.5%. The sulfur content can reach 0.1 ppm. Hubei Fertilizer has successfully carried out this operation.
With the addition of a CO2 product tower, the CO2 purity can reach 99.5%, but the CO2 content in the vent gas from the hydrogen sulfide concentration tower is also high. Our company’s air intake volume is 150,000, with a CO2 production capacity of around 30,000 per hour; however, the exhaust volume from the concentration tower can reach as high as 40,000. The H2S content in the CO2 product is less than 0.1 ppm; therefore, there should be no issue with using this CO2 to synthesize methanol.
Could you tell me in which years each was put into operation? What technology is used for methanol washing?
The old plant of Hubei Fertilizer Factory uses old Linde technology. Does increasing carbon dioxide purity necessarily lead to a larger amount of exhaust gas? In methanol synthesis, the carbon dioxide content helps to control the formation of the side reaction product dimethyl ether and enables better regulation of the temperature in the synthesis furnace~! It’s impossible to add that much carbon dioxide into it~! One also has to control the carbon dioxide level at the outlet of the absorption tower in order to adjust the hydrocarbon ratio
Firstly, our absorption tower is primarily designed to remove CO2, as we require that the purified gas contain no CO2 (the purified gas is not used for methanol production; the remaining amount of purified gas is intended to be mixed with a certain amount of CO2 to produce methanol). Therefore, CO2 must be supplied from another source. As mentioned above, I don’t need such a large amount of CO2 – is it possible to extract only the amount required for methanol production? In this way, the amount of CO2 will be only a few thousand – is that achievable?
