Tang Zongwei, the head of Fuling District, told Xinhua News Agency reporters that the factory where the accident occurred was Chongqing Jianfeng Chemical Plant, located in Baitao Town of the district. At around 16:00 on the 23rd, the roof of a construction platform in the factory – a structure with a diameter of 30 meters and shaped like a chimney – suddenly collapsed, burying several workers who were working there. Following urgent search and rescue efforts by the public security, fire protection, and work safety authorities in Fuling District, 12 bodies of workers who lost their lives were found by 20:30. After multiple inspections and checks by the rescue teams on site, no additional buried victims were discovered. It is understood that the Chongqing Jianfeng Chemical Plant, where the accident occurred, is a subsidiary of the Chongqing Chemical and Pharmaceutical Group, and it mainly produces fertilizer products. The emergency responders said that no chemical materials were leaked, as the material preparation platform where the collapse occurred was still under construction. After the accident, Tang Zongwei promptly led personnel from the relevant departments in Fuling District to the scene to carry out rescue operations.
