How to prepare dioxane hydrochloride??? Urgent!
Properties and preparation/purification of common reagents in organic chemistry: Dioxane has a boiling point of 104.5°C and a density of d = 1.0336. It is miscible with water, colorless, flammable, and can form an azeotrope with water (81.6% composition, boiling point of 87.8°C). It generally contains a small amount of diethanol acetal along with water; 10% concentrated hydrochloric acid can be added and the mixture can be refluxed for 3 hours while nitrogen is slowly introduced to remove the acetaldehyde that is formed. After cooling, granular potassium hydroxide is added until it no longer dissolves; the aqueous layer is separated, and the mixture is then dried with granular potassium hydroxide for one day. Filter, add metallic sodium and reflux for several hours, then distill. Prolonged storage of dioxane may result in the formation of peroxides, which should be removed before further processing.
