Author/Source: http://www.cheminfo.gov.cn/ date: 2009-3-23 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Relying on more than 20 years of technology accumulation and cooperation with enterprises, the Fujian Institute of Material Structure of the Chinese Academy of Sciences has successfully developed a complete set of technologies for the 10,000-ton CO gas-phase catalytic synthesis of oxalate esters and the catalytic hydrogenation of oxalate esters for the synthesis of ethylene glycol (referred to as "coal-to-ethylene glycol"). On March 18, this complete set of technology passed the achievement appraisal organized by the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Danyang, Jiangxi Province, where it was implemented. Appraisal experts unanimously believe that this achievement marks that my country is the first in the world to realize a complete set of "coal-to-ethylene glycol" technical routes and industrial applications. It is a world-first technology with independent intellectual property rights. The promotion and application of this technology will effectively alleviate the contradiction between supply and demand of ethylene glycol products in my country, and * * It has a positive impact on the energy and chemical industries and has important scientific significance, outstanding technological innovation and significant social and economic benefits. “Coal-to-ethylene glycol means using coal instead of petroleum ethylene to produce ethylene glycol. Experts pointed out that this type of technical route is consistent with my country's resource shortage of oil, gas and relatively abundant coal resources. The results obtained through long-term basic research, applied research and industrialization have multiple technology patents and independent intellectual property rights. ; This complete set of technology complies with the three principles of circular economy. Its notable feature is that all industrial-grade CO, NO, H2, O2 and alcohols are used as raw materials, which is extremely beneficial to the formation of a large-scale industry. After an on-site inspection by appraisal experts, the 10,000-ton industrial test device is operating stably and has the conditions for further construction of large-scale industrial production devices. Since 1982, Fujian Institute of Physics has obtained a series of patented technologies and catalyst technology secrets with completely independent property rights through many years of preliminary research. Since 2005, the institute has joined forces with Jiangsu Dan Chemical Group Co., Ltd. and Shanghai Jinmei Chemical New Technology Co., Ltd. to officially launch the industrialization project of "CO gas phase catalytic synthesis of oxalate esters and catalytic hydrogenation of oxalate esters to synthesize ethylene glycol". This research and development has received strong support from the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Fujian Province. After more than three years of hard work, we successfully completed the design and construction of a 10,000-ton coal-to-ethylene glycol industrial demonstration device, successfully started the entire process and operated stably for more than 1,000 hours.
What is the market capacity of ethylene glycol now, how big is the gap, how much does it cost to produce ethylene glycol through petrochemical industry, and how much does it cost to produce ethylene glycol through coal chemical industry.
