Why do the control systems of adsorption dryers from many manufacturers use pneumatic butterfly valves? Why not use a pneumatic diaphragm cut-off valve? In actual production applications, the selection of valve type depends on the characteristics of the chemical processing process, the size of the pipes, the properties of the process medium, as well as the pressure and temperature levels of the medium; these factors must be taken into account along with the features of various control valves. The main advantages of disc valves are their simple structure, small size, and light weight. They can be quickly opened and closed by rotating just 90°, making them easy to operate. Additionally, these valves possess excellent fluid control properties. When the butterfly valve is in its fully open position, the thickness of the butterfly disc is the only resistance to the flow of the medium through the valve body; as a result, the pressure drop across this valve is very small, giving it excellent flow control properties. The structural principle of butterfly valves makes them particularly suitable for manufacturing large-diameter valves. As for the issue raised by the original poster, it is likely that the design was chosen based on these characteristics of disc valves. Due to a lack of understanding regarding the process media and process flow of the adsorption dryer control system mentioned by the original poster, it is difficult to comment on why a pneumatic diaphragm cut-off valve was not chosen.
