Our company's RWU is from Linde Technology. A stream of lean methanol comes out of the thermal regeneration tower and has to pass through a pump (P7) and then a filter. Finally, it is divided into 2 streams, 1 stream to the demethanol water separation tower and the other stream to enter the lean methanol buffer tank. The problem is that the converging pipeline has a variable diameter (the pipeline is almost 2M and is made of 400/600). The role of diameter reduction is to adjust the flow rate and pressure. Does your process have different requirements for different pipes?
The reason for pipe diameter reduction is to reduce pipe investment. If a 400mm pipe can meet the requirements in a place, why use 600? 600mm is definitely more expensive than 400mm, and 600mm is heavier than a 400mm pipe. Using 400mm can reduce the load on the bracket, killing two birds with one stone.

The design of variable diameter is generally related to pressure and flow rate. I don’t know much about other things.
It may be due to the decompression effect, because the pressure after passing through the pump is relatively high. If it is directly connected to the inlet pipeline of the lean methanol tank, it will cause a huge impact and prevent the flow of fluid in the pipe! Just asking, do you have any valves on this pipeline?
