How can soft seal, hard seal, and metal seal be distinguished from each other? What are the differences?
Soft sealing refers to the use of rubber wrapped around the valve’s gate, or the incorporation of rubber in the valve body as a sealing element; valves such as elastic seat gate valves and elastic seat butterfly valves are all examples of soft-sealing valves; A metal gate or valve body that does not have any rubber seals incorporated into it is called a hard-sealed valve. Hard sealing can be further categorized as follows: 1. When other metal rings, such as copper, are used at the valve’s sealing area, this is referred to as copper sealing. 2. If no other metal ring is inserted at the valve seal, it is called a sealless design.
Soft seals rely primarily on the deformation of elastic sealing materials to achieve sealing. The most common examples include seals such as O-rings. Metal seals belong to hard seals. Simply put: the two sealing surfaces rely entirely on metal-to-metal contact. It is commonly used in high-pressure conditions. This is purely my personal understanding and may not be accurate; please use it as a reference. :P
Soft seals are used in applications where temperatures and pressures are not high and the medium is relatively clean; they can achieve zero leakage. Metal seals are used in high-temperature and high-pressure conditions as well as in environments containing particles; they can meet ANSI-VI or MSS SP-61 standards at most
Generally, soft seals are not used outdoors, as the sealing material tends to age under sunlight.
Hard and soft seals are just as the brothers upstairs have said. I’ll talk about packing seals and mechanical seals. A packing seal is achieved by inserting the packing into the packing box and then tightening the gland bolts, which applies axial compression to the packing through the gland. A mechanical seal is a dynamic sealing system in which two smooth and precise surfaces come into close contact under the action of medium pressure and external forces, while also rotating relative to each other.
Piping seal or tank seal? The sealing materials we commonly use are PTFE materials, rubber-lined PTFE, and metal wound gaskets.
