I do stress analysis now; I majored in mechanics in college. I really regret not studying hard in college*; I should have improved my skills in mathematics, mechanics, and English. I’m currently working on chemical engineering design without any prior knowledge in this field; I’m learning as I go.
Hehe, it’s never too late to realize one’s shortcomings and strive to improve them.

The same is true for stress analysis; if you really don’t have any theoretical foundation, you can go through basic books such as those on mechanics of materials from your university days to gain a basic understanding. Of course, having an experienced mentor to guide you will be even more beneficial.
