The acetic acid method involves the condensation reaction of acetic acid and dimethylamine in the presence of a catalyst to produce the desired product. In China, catalytic distillation technology has been successfully employed for direct synthesis; this allows the heat generated during the reaction to be utilized, reducing energy consumption during the process. Moreover, since the reaction and distillation take place in the same series, the production process is shortened. Furthermore, it is worth noting that the industrial production of dimethylformamide abroad mostly employs an advanced one-step synthesis method using carbon monoxide/dimethylamine, and some dimethylacetamide is often produced as a by-product in this process. Looking at the domestic and international technologies for the synthesis of dimethylacetamide, in the future China should accelerate the improvement and widespread use of the acetyl chloride method and the acetic acid method, thereby increasing yields through advances in synthetic techniques, simplifying processes, and reducing production costs. Furthermore, it is necessary to accelerate the research and development of the one-step carbonylation process using dimethylamine and carbon monoxide; once industrialized, this will greatly promote the development of dimethylacetamide in our country.
The acetic acid process is primarily used both domestically and internationally; it is said that Jiangshan has mastered this process after introducing it.
The process costs and investment requirements for the one-step synthesis of dimethyl acetamide from carbon monoxide/dimethylamine (for 100,000 tons of dimethyl acetamide) – what is the current situation regarding supply and demand during the pilot production phase? Thank you!
Jiangshan has 100,000 tons per year of dimethylformamide; I haven’t heard of any dimethylacetamide there.
