Based on the heat exchangers currently used in the distillation units, it has been found that three of them have severe leakage issues, which significantly affect the water content of the methanol product; moreover, the wastewater does not meet the required standards. After the maintenance, the problem was completely resolved. I’m not sure if this issue occurs with the heat exchangers used by others, but our equipment was manufactured by Fushun Chemical Machinery Factory, and it seems that the quality of manufacturing is not very good.
Even equipment purchasers are set to become wealthy in the future, so just be more understanding.
The poster can’t claim it’s a manufacturing defect just because the heat exchanger leaks easily; it could also be an issue with the design or the materials used.
Even if conventional carbon steel components are used for the overhead condenser in the methanol distillation section, there is no major issue with that; however, considering factors such as the purity of the methanol output, some companies opt for stainless steel instead. Based on what the original poster mentioned, it should be attributed more to problems in manufacturing.
You resolved the issue through maintenance – did you find out what was causing the leak? How should it be handled?
It should be due to a manufacturing quality issue; is it the weld or the base material? It is possible to analyze the cause of the leak; it should be a random issue
