I would like to ask everyone that our plant’s tank areas use radar level gauges, and false level readings can occur occasionally; however, the readings usually return to normal after a restart Since the tank is too tall, power is usually cut off behind the DCS cabinet and then restarted! Will this damage the lifespan of the radar level gauge? ?
Electromagnetic flowmeters also have this problem: sometimes they don’t work properly, but they can return to normal operation after being powered off and restarted. I’m not sure if this is a good approach
I’ve encountered this situation too; it should be fine. I’ve seen manufacturers do the same thing.
We have actually tried this method before, and it shouldn’t have much of an impact; it simply involves restarting the radar, and after it conducts another self-check, it will be able to function normally!

Our company has also used several radar level gauges for measuring oil tanks, but they haven’t worked very well. The first two were calibrated by the manufacturer, and after being in use for some time, the operators reported that their readings were not accurate. We didn’t have any calibration software, so we didn’t try to calibrate them any further. The last two units were requested from Chuanyi; they weren’t purchased directly from the manufacturer. Chuanyi was responsible for the debugging, but their technicians were unable to complete it as they had to leave due to other commitments. To this day, those units are still missing. I advise everyone to purchase items directly from the manufacturer in order to ensure better after-sales support.
In fact, radar level gauges are not omnipotent either; it’s best to choose a gauge that suits the specific application requirements.
