Coking is to heat coal in a retort furnace. As the temperature rises (eventually reaching about 1,000°C), the organic matter in the coal gradually decomposes. Among them, the volatile substances escape in the gaseous or steam state and become coal gas and coal tar. The remaining non-volatile product is coke. Coke plays the role of reducing and melting ore in the iron-making furnace, providing heat energy and supporting the charge, and maintaining good air permeability of the charge. Therefore, the quality requirements for coking coal are to obtain high-quality metallurgical coke with high mechanical strength, uniform lumpiness, and low ash and sulfur content. * * There are special quality standards for metallurgical coking coal, as follows:: 　　The ash content of fat coal and gas coal is grade 1-13 (not more than 5.5% is a grade, and each increase of 0.5% increases the grade to 13). The sulfur content of group 1 is not more than 0.5%. Group 2 is 0.51-1%. Group 3 is 1.01-1.5. Moisture content of No. 1 is not more than 0.9%. No. 2 is 9.0-10%. No. 3 is 10.0-12.0. The ash level of coking coal and lean coal is 11.5%. Sulfur content in group 1 is not more than 0.5%, group 2 is 0.51-1%, group 3 is 1.01-1.5, moisture content in group 1 is not more than 0.9%, group 2 is 9.0-10%, group 3 is 10.0-12.0
