I’ve never encountered it; I guess it serves to maintain balance, as there are no valves.
Adjust the pressure of the flow meter; it’s roughly equivalent to the corresponding device in a Roots blower
1 Balance tube: to balance the axial thrust. 2 Sealing flush water: usually collected via a cyclone separator, from the outlet, and sent to the mechanical seal and the pump inlet
