There are generally no specific regulations regarding the rotation of coal grinding mills; it is decided based on the conditions of each factory. Generally, turning the mill helps prevent it from becoming stiff over time, as well as avoiding sagging of the cylinder due to gravity over extended periods. However, it is necessary to turn the engine over before driving, and this turning over should cover more than one full circle to prevent jamming, which could otherwise burn out the motor or damage the equipment and the motor.
After the mill is stopped, there is no need to turn it manually if it is going to be started again in a short time; however, during a long period of shutdown, it is necessary to turn the mill manually every 4 hours. Personal opinion: 1. Whether it is an old or new mill, the drum must be manually rotated before each start-up, in order to check for any movement obstacles and prevent accidents; 2. When the mill is shut down for a short period of time, it is generally necessary to turn the drum once every 2–4 hours, by an angle of 180°. The purpose is to prevent deformation of the mill cylinder ; 3. If the mill is shut down for an extended period, the grinding media can be removed. Supporting structures are also installed below the middle part of the mill cylinder, allowing the mill to operate without needing to be rotated ;
All the points mentioned above are basically correct; that is, an auxiliary motor is used for turning the shaft during rotation, rather than the main motor!
Cranking the machine is similar to an airplane gliding – it’s necessary. We do it manually, but there are also specialized cranking motors; this is to prevent the mill from being damaged due to its own physical properties when started suddenly!
