In what situations are inspection platforms installed for heating steam pipes and steam condensate pipes? Is the valve on a pipe rack higher than 5m? Or an overhead pipe rack with more than 3 valves? Are there any specific standards or regulations to define this?
Generally, a corridor should be available on a 5-meter pipe rack to facilitate easy operation. Does a steam trap need to be installed at regular intervals along the pipe tray? In fact, for valves that are operated frequently, an operation platform should generally be installed. Valves are generally not installed on overhead pipelines.
Thank you for the advice. The problem now is that some valves do not need to be operated frequently, but they are installed at a high position (out of reach of people). To facilitate maintenance, is it necessary to have a maintenance platform? Without a platform, it’s more difficult to carry out maintenance, but having one seems like a waste. Specifications are guiding principles; they form the basis of design and serve as the basis for passing approval. But many things change once you get to the scene. Because what we design is intended to be easy to operate and easy to maintain. It’s not convenient for design. I work in production, so I’m more concerned about practicality. Many design institutes, when following the specifications and going to the site, either make changes or add elements. For example, take our hydraulic valves: the design institute didn’t consider any maintenance platforms at all, as these valves are mostly over 5 meters in height. What should I do? Upon arriving at the site, we designed our own maintenance platform, and eventually the design institute came to our location to take photos so they could use them to refine the design. So I think: it should be set up.
The guy upstairs is right; but if it’s not used frequently, one could set up a straight ladder or something like that. If it’s not very high, temporary steps or a movable ladder can be used. There are no strict rules.
For valves that are in a higher position and are normally open or normally closed, and need to be serviced, a scissor lift is sufficient; there is no real need for a service platform.
It is best to group the valves on the pipeline together during the design phase, and then build a platform.
