In recent years, methanol technology has developed rapidly, with the main trends being: ① the use of natural gas and exhaust gases from hydrocarbon processing as raw materials for production. Based on the actual conditions of production from methanol, using natural gas as a raw material can reduce investment costs by 50% compared to using solid materials; the economic benefits are even greater when acetylene waste gas is utilized. Currently, internationally, natural gas is the main raw material used for methanol production, accounting for about 90%, while coal accounts for only 2%. In recent years, the proportion of methanol produced from coal as a raw material in China has been increasing gradually, which is related to China’s energy structure. ②The production scale is large; the maximum capacity for a single series amounts to 2.25 million tons per year, which translates to 7,500 metric tons per day per series. With an increased scale, the investment and cost per unit of product can be reduced. ③Fully recover the heat from the system. Steam generated under economic pressure is used to drive the compressors as well as the turbines of the boiler feed water pumps and circulation water pumps, thereby enabling the comprehensive utilization of thermal energy. ④A new methanol synthesis tower that generates medium-pressure steam as a by-product is used to reduce energy consumption. ⑤Energy-saving technologies such as hydrogen recovery, pre-conversion, process condensate saturation technology, and combustion air preheating technology are employed to reduce methanol consumption.
