Currently, the SHELL plants are facing a serious problem with high pressure differences in the K1301 filters. The pipelines were originally designed to use carbon steel, but many plants have switched to stainless steel; however, SHELL company disagrees with this, stating that since the syngas contains chloride ions and is a saturated gas, it can easily cause brittle fracture of the steel. When restarting operation with carbon steel materials, the loose rust can easily cause a high pressure difference in the filter. What should be done?
Using stainless steel is indeed inappropriate, as it can lead to greater safety risks. At that time, manufacturers with plenty of funds switched to stainless steel, but the test results were not satisfactory. Manufacturers that use carbon steel pipes as required by BDEP were tested after two years of operation, and the corrosion level was not as severe as LZ claimed; it is predicted that corrosion will not be a problem within 5 years. During normal production, pay attention to maintaining proper temperature control – there should be no problems. When the equipment is shut down, make sure that the pipelines remain dry. If possible, replace the pipelines; an 825 carbon steel lining could be an option
Our factory uses stainless steel 316, but the results are not good; everything that has corroded has turned black and is completely damaged. The specific cause is unknown
