I would like to ask about hose stations: we know the functions of water, steam, factory air, and nitrogen. I understand what water, steam, and nitrogen are used for, but I’m not clear on what factory air is used for and when it is utilized ? Thank you
Its main purpose is to provide breathing air for maintenance personnel during repairs; the compressed air must not come from instrument air, nor from factory air! Air for breathing must be supplied in a way that ensures safety, with a quality that meets the standards required for breathing! Otherwise, it can cause suffocation accidents!
Factory air usually comes from the air compression stations in the utility system. Its uses are as follows: 1. As a power source for the pneumatic instrumentation systems in the facility – often referred to as instrument air. 2. For purging and ventilation at the site – commonly known as compressed air. 3. As a power source for temporary pneumatic equipment at explosion-proof locations, such as pneumatic diaphragm pumps and pneumatic drum pumps. 4. Note that air should not be used for purging systems involving flammable or explosive substances; it is generally only used for purging systems with inert gases such as nitrogen. For reference!

It is used as a source of air supply during maintenance.
I’m not sure if plant air is used for on-site purging. I saw employees using it to blow dust off their bodies after work a long time ago, hehe.
