Formation of coke of different sizes: During the coking process of coal in the carbonization chamber of a coke oven, due to temperature gradients and shrinkage stresses, the entire coke cake is divided into coke pieces of varying sizes by numerous vertical and horizontal cracks. After being removed from the coke oven, the coke cake undergoes processes such as natural falling and collisions; these include quenching, transportation, and screening. The larger coke pieces break apart along the original large cracks to form smaller pieces. This fragmentation process is inevitable in the current chamber coke-making process. On the other hand, since the coke naturally cracks along its original fissures into smaller pieces and is graded, this helps to maintain the coke pieces at a relatively constant size, which is necessary and advantageous for users. However, the coke transported from coking plants continues to crack under external forces until it is used, due to the presence of some visible or internal cracks in the coke as well as its relatively poor structural strength. Both coke producers and users prefer as little crushing of this type as possible.
