Questions about air conditioning

I have a gentle question: for the split air conditioners commonly used at home, does the air blown out come from outside or from inside the room? I originally thought that the air was being drawn in by something like an outdoor fan, but an experienced engineer told me that’s not the case. May I ask everyone, what are the functions of these two components? Is the air blown out by the air conditioner outdoor air or air that is recirculated inside the room? It is indoor air that has been heated or cooled by the coil before being blown out.
