How much do you know about the industrial uses of urea?
Industrial uses of urea include its use as a raw material in the production of various products such as melamine, urea-formaldehyde resins, hydrated azo compounds, tetracycline, phenobarbital, caffeine, Red Brown BR, Phthalo Blue B, Phthalo Blue Bx, and monosodium glutamate.
Additionally, it can also be used as a feed additive for ruminants.
Industrially, it is also used as a raw material for manufacturing urea-formaldehyde resins, polyurethanes, and melamine-formaldehyde resins. It has a wide range of applications in medicine, **, leather processing, flocculants, pigments, and the dewaxing of petroleum products. When urea is heated to 200°C, solid trichloric acid (i.e., cyanuric acid) is formed. Derivatives of cyanuric acid, such as trichloroisocyanuric acid, sodium dichloroisocyanurate, tris(2-hydroxyethyl) isocyanurate, tris(allyl) isocyanurate, tris(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl) isocyanate, triglycidyl isocyanurate, and melamine cyanurate complexes, have many important applications. The first two are new types of high-grade disinfectants and bleaching agents; the total global production capacity of trichloroisocyanuric acid exceeds 80,000 tons.
