We plan to invest in building an oil refinery with an annual production capacity of 4 million tons. Are there any recommended small design firms? Are there any requirements regarding design qualifications? Thank you!

I recommend one: Zhenhai Refining & Chemical Engineering Design Institute, which has designed many facilities for Zhenhai Refining & Chemical, and it’s really excellent.
Luoyang Chenxin Bar – many local refineries, and almost all private oil refineries, are using their designs
I suggest you choose a compound instead. The design institutes of major companies still lack experience in conducting plant-wide design. Our company has learned its lessons, especially regarding energy consumption.
Choosing some first-class small design institutes will meet the requirements.

When it comes to refineries, it’s better to go for larger ones; smaller ones indeed lack expertise in terms of overall planning as well as material and energy balance. Smaller design firms can handle the renovation of individual units, but they lack experience in developing overall plans.
