How to get familiar with and learn *DCS

I originally studied computer networks, but now, due to my work, I often have to deal with control systems such as PLCs and DCSs; I’m not very familiar with either of these systems. How to follow along and set up a system? For example, what about the selection of instruments? Or process control? I’m not quite sure yet
