What safety measures are required when replacing the dry desulfurization agent (iron oxide)?
This question is way too simple: 1. Remove the tower and install blind flanges on the gas inlet and outlet. 2. Tower replacement is qualified. 3. Remove the manhole and discharge hole. 4. Remove the desulfurizer. 5. Carefully inspect the sieve screen; this is key to replacing the desulfurizer. 6. Install new desulfurizer. 7. Manhole, integrated into the system. If no welding work is to be carried out inside the tower, the common practice among manufacturers is to install blind flanges at the inlet and outlet, then open the manhole and discharge ports, and allow natural ventilation for gas exchange while removing the desulfurizing agent. With a little care, no safety issues will arise.
What was said upstairs is correct, but it’s still a good idea to prepare fire-fighting water and such; the desulfurization agent will catch fire on contact with air.
Generally speaking, iron oxide is unlikely to catch fire on its own; however, in the case of activated carbon, caution is needed, as it can ignite spontaneously inside a tower as long as there is air circulation. Therefore, when removing the activated carbon, not all manholes need to be opened; it should be removed layer by layer, from top to bottom.
After ventilation in the tower, the oxidation of ferrous sulfide releases heat. Moreover, since the current dry desulfurization agents contain sawdust, could there be a dust explosion?
