Since I don’t have any information available regarding the grouting of the pump base, I would like to know whether the grouting material is used to fill the entire cavity inside the pump base as well as the surrounding anchor bolts, or only the surrounding area Note: The volume of the pump base cavity is also quite large! The factory needs to install 2 water pumps, with a power output of around 20 kW each. The concrete foundation has been completed, and on it, each water pump has 6 anchor bolt holes prepared, with a diameter of 100 and a depth of 300. My installation plan is to first install the foot bolts, pour grout around them and let it cure, then place shims to level the structure before installing the water pump; finally, perform a second grouting operation to secure the water pump in place. However, the construction team stated that this water pump is of medium to small size, and according to the specifications, the foundation bolts can be installed directly on the pump base, then leveled using shims, followed by a single grouting process. Please discuss which method is more reasonable. Method 2 saves time and has a high success rate, but Method 1 is usually used to lay the foundation for the equipment. Here in **, it is often this seemingly more efficient method that causes problems. . It is recommended to use the first one! If it’s all grouted at once, it will affect the level; at least the second option is more likely to work. I think Method 2 is feasible; it saves time. Of course, the normal approach should still be as described in Method 1. Personal opinion: Since the power of your pump isn’t very high, it can be installed directly on a concrete slab with shock absorbers, eliminating the need for a foundation. The construction team said that this water pump is of medium to small size; therefore, I think the second method can be used. This pump is really small, and foot bolts can be used to secure it. Even the 37KW self-priming pumps we use don’t require any fixation. They are still in place and haven’t moved. Based on on-site experience, the first method should be adopted. As for the installation sequence, I believe it can follow these steps: 1. Place the water pump and shims on the concrete foundation of the equipment, and adjust them so that the vertical and horizontal centerlines of the pump, as well as the elevation of its base plate and the parallelism of its inlet and outlet flanges, meet the technical specifications. After that, grout the equipment to fix the foot bolts. 2. 21 days after completing one grouting operation, recheck the position, elevation, and flange parallelism of the water pump; if no issues are found, carry out a second grouting of the anchor bolts. Make fine adjustments if there are any issues. If the second method is used for construction, it may cause changes in the technical parameters related to the water pump, and these changes cannot be adjusted. The above opinions are purely personal and for reference only; please point out any shortcomings. Is the water pump you are using vertical or horizontal? If it is a vertical centrifugal pump, it can be installed directly; if it is horizontal, secondary pouring is necessary, otherwise it will affect the performance of the pump. Another approach is to first construct the pump foundation using concrete, leaving holes at the locations for the anchor bolts, and then carry out secondary grouting.
Check whether alignment is done without shims or with shims. If alignment is done without shims, it must be carried out thoroughly; if alignment is done with shims, it doesn’t matter whether it’s thorough or not. In the case of alignment with shims, the shims must be secured during the secondary grouting process.
For our construction work, we generally use plunger pumps with a power of 37 KW or more. Grouting is carried out after leveling the area using shims, and the grouting is usually limited to the foundation bolts only; the cavity of the pump base is not grouted
We use shims for leveling; some pump bases are completely enclosed, with fluid only filled around the bolts. In such cases, any fluid that accumulates inside the base cavity cannot be drained. Should we provide a drainage outlet in the base cavity? Some are in the form of channel steel; after grouting only at the bolt locations, the liquid can be drained from both sides. Otherwise, it’s better to fill them with ordinary fine aggregate concrete, as the price of grouting materials is quite high. Please help!
