Small design firms charge low fees; their designs are of average quality, but their service is good. Generally, the design of synthesis towers should not be entrusted to them. Traditional large design firms charge high fees, have strong design capabilities, but their service quality is not always excellent. If it is designed to be smaller, with a capacity of less than 200,000 tons, a smaller design institute can be used; however, for the completed design drawings, it is best to have several manufacturing units evaluate them and discuss them together. If designing a large-scale synthesis, it is best to engage large design institutes, such as those under the former Ministry of Chemical Industry.

The domestic methanol production process mentioned by the poster actually refers to the design of methanol synthesis towers. The main types of synthesis towers used in China are: 1. The isothermal single-alcohol (or dual-alcohol) synthesis tower developed by Zhejiang Linda, as well as shell-and-tube synthesis towers; 2. The alcoholification process used by Hunan Anchun, as well as low-pressure methanol production using water-cooled tubes (with a capacity of up to 300,000 units per year). 3. Nanjing Guochang’s axial-radial towers (for both single-alcohol and mixed-alcohol production), along with water-cooled plate-type systems for low-pressure single-alcohol production ; 4. Adiabatic shell-and-tube single alcohol from East China University of Science and Technology ; 5. Other domestic analogs of luchitol ; 6. The model adopted by various design institutes, where process packages are provided by foreign parties and patents for synthesis towers are imported, while the process design is carried out locally, is used in most single-series plants.
