I would like to ask the experts here about a term: what is quartz glass fiber that has been silanized? How to understand silanization? Thank you!
Silanization refers to the reaction of hydroxyl groups on the rough surface of quartz glass with silanizing agents to form covalent bonds, thereby removing the polarity from its surface – that is, eliminating the surface activity of the glass – and preventing sample adsorption. Examples include the silanization treatment of glass columns (or stainless steel columns) as well as glass linings in vaporization chambers: a toluene solution containing 5% silanizing agent (DMCS) is injected into the empty, clean, and dry glass columns and linings, left there for 15 minutes, after which the toluene solution containing the silanizing agent is removed. The column and liner were sequentially cleaned with toluene, methanol, and distilled water, followed by cleaning with acetone, and then dried in an oven at 110°C for 2 hours.
