WCB refers to castings made of 16Mn; what about A105? The latter is mostly used for valves with small diameters
ASTM stands for the American Society for Testing and Materials; 216 can be considered to be something like a document number. “ASTM216” refers to a document with that number, issued by that organization. What’s really important is the content of that document. This document describes the physical and chemical properties of three types of carbon cast steels (WCA, WCB, WCC) as well as other relevant information. Since you mentioned check valves, valve castings are generally made from WCB, which is equivalent to China’s 25 or 35 cast steel; the German standard 1.0619 is also similar to it. Since ASTM216-WCB is a quite commonly used cast steel, it is generally understood that WCB refers to the standard specified in ASTM216. Carbon steel (WCA, WCB, WCC) is suitable for medium and high-pressure valves operating at temperatures ranging from -29 to +425°C. Among these, 16Mn and 30Mn can operate at temperatures from -40 to +450°C, and are often used as alternatives to ASTM A105. WCB: Carbon steel ASTM A216 for non-corrosive applications, including water, oil, and gas; Temperature range: -30 degrees Celsius to 425 degrees Celsius. A105 is a material code; it belongs to the category of special steels and is a type of cold-forged steel.
