The laboratory needs to install a waste solvent collection system, which requires an electric diaphragm pump. Since the fluids being transported are flammable and explosive organic solvent wastes, there are certain special requirements: the parts in contact with the liquid must be made of stainless steel or Viton A; the motor must be explosion-proof, with a capacity of 400 L/H and a head of 30–50 meters. I searched online for many domestic pumps, and found that their descriptions were mostly similar to each other, with the vast majority even being exactly the same (including spelling mistakes), which makes me very concerned about their quality. I would also appreciate it if everyone here could recommend a few options; preferably brands that are either domestic or joint ventures, or well-known domestic companies. If imported products are needed, it’s best to choose those with a high market share in the domestic market, as I don’t want to face difficulties with after-sales service in the future. The Milton Roy models we use here are relatively stable; however, the diaphragms can easily get damaged due to improper operation or other reasons.
There is a gas source, but piping is still needed, which is very inconvenient. What the people upstairs mentioned seem to be all pneumatic diaphragm pumps. I know that the electric diaphragm pumps available in China are all copies of those made by ABEL Company, but I’m not sure if any of them offer better quality. Also, since a few of you upstairs have used Mitrone pumps, could you share the approximate price?
Brands such as Milton Roy mentioned above are imported diaphragm metering pumps, all of which are motor-driven diaphragm pumps. There are motor-driven mechanical diaphragm types and motor-driven hydraulic diaphragm types. For a pump with a mechanical diaphragm, based on your process conditions (400 L/H, 5 bar, dIIBT4), the price is approximately RMB12,000. However, in such pumps, the diaphragm is directly connected to the membrane, resulting in relatively high stress at the contact point; therefore, the service life of the diaphragm is not long (about 1 year). If you have a good budget, you can opt for a diaphragm metering pump with pressure compensation; its price is around RMB 3,000. In such pumps, the stress is applied evenly to the diaphragm, which allows it to last for a long time – over 3 years. Good brands include Pasifida, Promont, Mintonro, Riva, Brown Nubie, and others. The process characteristic of using a metering pump is continuous and precise dosing. So, if you are only doing transportation and do not require high-precision measurement, you can choose the pneumatic diaphragm pump mentioned on the 4th floor. Based on your process requirements, the price is approximately RMB8,000. Such pumps are primarily used for conveying fluids, but they feature self-priming capability and can operate without a load. They use compressed air as power, which makes them inherently explosion-proof (explosion-proof motors should be considered flameproof). They have static seals that prevent leakage, and they are capable of transporting media with high viscosity as well as solid particles of certain sizes. Therefore, pneumatic diaphragm pumps are an excellent choice for transporting flammable, explosive, highly corrosive, toxic, and volatile media. Imported brands include Ingersoll Rand, Wilton, Wema, Simplo, and so on. For domestic brands, the design and manufacturing of components such as air motors and diaphragms are not up to standard. They can be used for transporting ordinary water-based fluids, but for applications with higher requirements, especially those involving viscous fluids, it’s better to avoid using them to prevent problems. Thank you to the friend above; I checked out information on Mitrone and found that they do indeed offer mechanical diaphragm metering pumps, with pump heads made of SS316L+Viton+PTFE, as well as explosion-proof motors, which meet all my requirements. But I’m not sure if the price of 12,000 refers to this kind of pump head For laboratory use, with intermittent operation – it’s estimated that the device is turned on twice a day, transporting no more than 30L of fluid each time; therefore, its lifespan shouldn’t be an issue. Besides, the owner certainly has plenty of money!
1. Generally, it is made of 316 stainless steel, not 316L. 2. PTFE is the material used for the diaphragm. 3. Viton is a fluororubber, but metering pumps do not use this material; the valve ball is generally made of ceramic. The material of the valve seat is usually the same as that of the pump head. 4. If about 30L is transferred each time, it is more appropriate to use a metering pump. 5. The mechanical diaphragm metering pump with a flameproof motor and made of such materials costs 12,000 yuan; it is capable of meeting a flow rate requirement of 400 L/H. Pumps with a flow rate of 30 L/H, as you requested, cost less than 8,000 yuan. 6. The brands you can choose from include: Pasfida (pumps equipped with originally imported American motors along with domestic motors), Prominent (pumps equipped with originally imported German motors along with domestic motors), Milton Roy (an American brand manufactured in China), etc.
Milton Roy is an American company and the leader in metering pump technology; there are no manufacturers of such pumps in China. Reva has a joint venture factory in Dalian, and the quality there is also very good.
