I would like to ask experts: For a flat-face flange operating at around 400 degrees Celsius and under a pressure of 0.8–1.0 MPa, what type of gasket is the best choice? We are using asbestos pads now, and they leak frequently.
The operating temperature range for asbestos gaskets is -50 to 200 degrees. The hanging gasket is incorrect. At a temperature of 400 degrees, there are still no non-metallic gaskets that can be used. Only the metal gasket needs to be replaced, and the flange must be replaced accordingly.
It can be changed to an RF-sealed flange with a graphite wound gasket, or to a male-female or ring-connected flange, using the appropriate gasket in each case.
Metal wound gaskets are better, but those with reinforcing rings should not be used – they don’t seal properly when they have such rings
Graphite-wrapped inner and outer ring gaskets, with RF face flange. Or an RJ ring groove gasket, with an RJ face flange.
Now, metal-clad gaskets are being used, and the manufacturer is very confident, stating that they can withstand temperatures up to 1200 degrees Celsius.
Use a composite graphite gasket with steel wires inside; it’s absolutely great – you should give it a try! It can withstand temperatures over 800 degrees and pressures up to 10 MPa!
Graphite wound gaskets can be used, and they work well; we have used them at high temperatures of 600 degrees without any issues. Pure aluminum gaskets can also be used, after being annealed.
Use a metal wound gasket or a graphite wound gasket.
