I encountered such a problem during the design of a process unit: the reaction vessel needed to be heated using organic heat transfer oil at 250 degrees, with the heat transfer oil being heated through coils. However, the equipment is purchased externally, and all the connections for the heat transfer oil pipes use PN1.0 flanges (HG20592). The pressure of the heat transfer oil is around 0.5 MPa. Given that the temperature of the heat transfer oil is quite high (250°C), I’m concerned that the PN1.0 flanges might cause leaks in the heat transfer oil system What grade of flange should be chosen in such a situation?
Choosing a PN1.0 flange should already meet the requirements.
Taking temperature factors into account, the pressure class of the flange can be increased by one level, from PN1.0 to PN1.6, while using appropriate flange gaskets. For reference!
According to the material, check the temperature and pressure ratings; ordinary materials such as those of grade 20# or higher are generally no problem.
Flanges of PN1.0 are sufficient.
Pay attention to the type of flange sealing surface and select the appropriate gasket
Be sure to perform a “thermal tightening” treatment on this flange after heating it.
The PN1.0 flanges fully meet the requirements for use and will not cause leakage of heat transfer oil. 250°C is no problem; oils at temperatures of three to four hundred degrees can also be used.
I learned an additional “heat-pressing” treatment, but it’s still advisable to check the pressure and temperature parameters
