I have a question regarding the CL- value and conductivity of a boiler’s drum. Since I’m not majoring in boiler technology, I’m not very familiar with these concepts. Could those who are familiar with this please explain: We use vapor cooling for the heating furnace, with forced circulation; it’s essentially like a small boiler. During operation, great emphasis is placed on water quality, which is assessed by testing several indicators: CL-, and conductivity are the most important ones. . I don’t understand now why these two parameters are used to measure water quality. Some say it’s corrosion, while others say it’s related to some kind of cycling rate; I’m really confused right now. . Thank you all. It would be best to have relevant materials. .

CL-chloride ions can cause the passivation film on the surface of austenitic stainless steel pressure vessels to be damaged. Under tensile stress, the areas where the passivation film is damaged become susceptible to corrosion and develop cracks, serving as the anodic region of a corrosion cell; continuous electrochemical corrosion may ultimately lead to the fracture of the metal. In this type of stress corrosion, the cracks are usually transgranular and mostly branch-like. Conductivity is a substance’s ability to carry electric current, and it is the reciprocal of resistivity. In liquids, their ability to conduct electricity is often measured by the reciprocal of resistance – conductivity. The electrical conductivity of water is a very important indicator for measuring water quality. It can reflect the level of electrolytes present in the water. The higher the conductivity, the better the electrical conductivity; the more ions there are in water, the greater the harm to the boiler.
