The quality issues that arise behind the construction joints in large-volume concrete projects are worth paying attention to; I have encountered quality problems caused by improper construction of such joints in my own projects. If the structure is relatively long or the geological conditions differ greatly, it may be necessary to use post-cast strips in place of expansion joints; in such cases, cracks can easily occur due to poor settlement deformation； If it is merely due to the longer length, and proper considerations have been given in the structural design, the absence of a post-cast strip should not necessarily lead to structural defects. Generally speaking, it is best to carry out the construction in accordance with the design requirements. If expanded concrete is used, it is actually possible to charge more from the project owner, which makes it a fairly cost-effective option.
