What factors should be considered when checking the strength of the cylinder in a horizontal vessel with a jacket?
For horizontal containers with jackets, the common structure is usually a semi-jacketed cylinder. The inner cylinder is generally calculated as a full jacket. Try to place the saddle on the inner cylinder. If it is to be placed on a jacket, care should be taken to prevent it from flattening out, and reinforcement should be provided at the jacket area.
I tend to agree that the saddle should be placed as far inside the inner cylinder as possible. Placing the saddle on the outer cylinder does indeed tend to cause flattening; in such cases, if a reinforcing ring is installed inside the jacket, structurally it makes little difference from having the saddle placed on the inner cylinder.
