Is it necessary to use sacrificial anodes for protecting the inner surfaces of the bottom plates of crude oil storage tank walls? What are the requirements regarding coatings? Are the general provisions specified in GB mandatory? And if sacrificial anode protection is removed, should the coating be replaced with a conductive antistatic coating? These requirements are specified in GB50393-2008: sacrificial anodes should be used on the inner surfaces of the tank walls and bottom plates of crude oil storage tanks, and insulating, high-corrosion-resistant coatings are generally used. Everything that is required by the standards must be implemented; whereas options such as those that are recommended or permissible offer a certain degree of flexibility. For small storage tanks, cathodic protection may not be necessary, but insulating, highly corrosion-resistant coatings should be used in the areas of crude oil tanks that are 1 to 1.5 meters below the tank bottom, as water tends to accumulate in these areas; insulating coatings provide better corrosion protection than conductive coatings. The upper part is coated with an antistatic paint. In fact, foreigners hardly ever use antistatic coatings.
