Any machine that extracts gas from a device to create a vacuum inside it is called a vacuum pump or vacuum extractor. Structurally, vacuum pumps can be roughly divided into reciprocating vacuum pumps, rotary vacuum pumps, and jet vacuum pumps, among others. 1. Reciprocating vacuum pump. Reciprocating vacuum pumps are suitable for pumping gases that contain no solid particles and are non-corrosive. This vacuum pump has a high pumping speed and a high degree of vacuum. Therefore, it is widely used in chemical plants. However, its structure is complex and it requires a lot of maintenance. 2. Water ring vacuum pump. The working fluid of a jet vacuum pump can be high-pressure steam, air, or high-pressure water. The jet vacuum pump mixes with the fluid to be transported (liquid or gas) and expels them together. The advantages of jet vacuum pumps are: they have a simple structure, operate reliably, are easy to use, and do not require any prime mover; they are commonly used in chemical production for pumping toxic or corrosive gases. The working principle of the water ring vacuum pump is as follows: A certain amount of water is filled into the cylindrical pump cylinder of this vacuum pump. An eccentrically mounted star-shaped impeller is located within the pump cylinder; as the impeller rotates, the water is forced outward by centrifugal force, thereby forming a closed water ring that is eccentric with respect to the impeller. In a water ring vacuum pump, the gas to be evacuated enters the space between the water ring and the impeller through the suction pipe and connectors at the suction port. In the crescent-shaped area on the right, as the impeller rotates, the volume of this space gradually increases, thereby creating a vacuum that draws in the gas. As the impeller rotates in the water ring vacuum pump, gas enters the left crescent-shaped section. As the impeller rotates eccentrically, this space gradually shrinks, causing the gas to be compressed and its pressure to increase. The gas and water then enter the water tank through the exhaust port and the connector along the exhaust pipe; after they separate automatically, they are discharged through the vent pipe. In a water ring vacuum pump, the waste water is discharged into the water tank along with air. Water ring vacuum pumps are characterized by their compact structure, reliable and stable operation, and uniform flow rate; therefore, they are widely used in chemical production for transporting or pumping flammable, explosive, and corrosive gases.
