For oil transfer pipelines, if the pump in operation needs maintenance, is the switching of the main pump done by starting the standby pump first and then shutting down the pump in use? What are the disadvantages and hazards of stopping a transfer pipeline pump first and then starting it again? For example, in a main oil transfer pump system with two pumps in series without frequency conversion, operating in a 1-out-of-2 backup configuration (1# and 2# are in operation while 3# is in standby), should the pumps be started one after another, with all three pumps brought to their rated operating point before pump 2# is turned off?
Doing this is the right thing. Some experience: 1. First, stop the main pump, which means temporarily halting the transfer of materials; this can cause damage to subsequent processes that need to operate continuously. Such as: material breakage or shutdown. 2. First, stop the main pump and start the backup pump; if the backup pump fails to start or cannot meet the requirements of subsequent operations, it will still affect production. For example: fluctuations in pressure and flow rate are significant. 3. Only after the standby pump is started and reaches its rated operating point should the main pump be stopped for maintenance.
Under normal circumstances, when switching pump units, they are started first and then stopped, but this is not absolute. If the system voltage does not meet the requirements, such as being too low, it is possible to shut it down first and then restart it. When switching units, a smooth transition is necessary to prevent excessive fluctuations in system pressure and maintain system stability.
