Our company currently has steel plates used for corrosion testing; after being retrieved from the field (usually installed in oil pipelines), they are cleaned using HCl solution containing a corrosion inhibitor, then dehydrated with alcohol, and finally dried and placed in a desiccator. But recently, it has been found that many steel sheets cannot be cleaned properly after washing; there is a film-like layer on their surface. This layer can be removed by wiping them with gauze. So what kind of cleaning solution can be used to clean it thoroughly?
Prepare the film-removing solution using the following formula: 1 liter of hydrochloric acid (specific gravity 1.19 g/cm3), 20 grams of antimony trioxide, and 50 grams of stannous chloride. At room temperature, the sample is placed in the stripping solution and carefully cleaned until all corrosion products are removed. The acid-washed samples were rinsed with tap water, immersed in a saturated sodium bicarbonate solution for 2–3 minutes for neutralization, and then dehydrated with anhydrous ethanol for 3–5 minutes. Finally, the sample was dried by blowing and placed in a desiccator for 24 hours; thereafter, it was weighed using an electronic balance (with a precision of 0.1 mg), and its corrosion rate was calculated via the weight loss method.
