What are the properties of cellulase? Our factory’s wastewater contains a high amount of cellulose; some people have suggested using cellulase – is that feasible?
Cellulase is a type of enzyme that plays a biocatalytic role in breaking down cellulose. Cellulase is widely present in organisms in nature. Cellulase can be produced in bacteria, fungi, animals, and other organisms. Cellulases generally used in production come from fungi; typical examples include the genus Trichoderma, the genus Aspergillus, and the genus Penicillium. Strains that produce cellulase are prone to degradation, resulting in a decrease in their enzyme-producing capacity. Cellulase is widely used in both the food industry and the environmental industry. During alcoholic fermentation, the addition of cellulase can increase the utilization rate of raw materials and improve the quality of the wine. Due to the difficulty in purifying cellulase, practical applications generally also contain hemicellulase and other related enzymes, such as amylase and protease. There are many types of cellulases, with diverse sources. Cellulases from different sources vary greatly in structure and function. Due to their high yield and strong activity, fungal cellulases are the main type of cellulase used in the livestock industry and feed industry.
It is feasible to use this cellulase, but the quality of products manufactured by domestic companies is not very good; it’s better to use imported versions. However, imported products require customs inspection, and it is impossible to determine in a short time whether they pose a risk to the environment. In my opinion, it’s better to be cautious when using biochemical products.
