In the heavy oil pump house, the purging lines for each pump should be equipped with steam and nitrogen sources for purging; if only steam is used, a large amount of oil will be blown directly into the waste oil tank when the pipes are full. This is clearly a waste. After installing steam, it is a scientifically sound and cost-effective design to first use nitrogen to push the oil in the pipeline into the corresponding storage tanks before proceeding with purging.
Using both steam and nitrogen – a great method
In fact, the pipe is not filled to capacity during purging; the material should be emptied as much as possible, and then purged with steam or topped off with light diesel.
Compared to diesel, nitrogen is of course more cost-effective.
