Based on experience, external metal wound gaskets cannot be used for safety valve gaskets, because once the gasket comes apart and its wires scatter, after the safety valve operates, these wires can get stuck in the sealing surfaces of the valve seat and valve disc, resulting in leakage from the safety valve
Pads with inner and outer rings generally don’t fall apart, so they work just fine.

A metal wound gasket with only an inner ring can be installed, so that in the event of leakage, it will not penetrate inside
Graphite wound gaskets with inner and outer ring reinforcement or PTFE wound gaskets can be considered
Compound metal gaskets can be used, the kind covered with stainless steel sheet; the wires won’t scatter
At the inlet of the safety valve, it is recommended to use wound gaskets or toothed gaskets with metal inner and outer rings; I personally do not recommend the use of sheet gaskets. Attention should be paid to the spot welding process of the metal winding strip used in wound gaskets, as well as to the assembly of the inner ring and the metal strip. For large-diameter flanges, it is recommended to use toothed gaskets.
