The main methanol recovery takes place in the pressurized column, while the atmospheric column controls the recovery by regulating the amount of reflux; generally, the recovery in the atmospheric column is very low~!
Since the heat source at the bottom of the atmospheric pressure tower is provided by the steam from the top of the pressurized tower, the more product is extracted from the pressurized tower, the more heat is supplied to the bottom of the atmospheric pressure tower; however, this also results in greater steam consumption at the bottom of the pressurized tower. Therefore, adjusting the production from the two towers is an important condition for optimizing the process and reducing energy consumption. About 1:1.
Three-column distillation is employed to achieve high steam utilization; to maintain a stable amount of vapor, it is necessary to keep the reflux ratios in the pressurized column and the atmospheric column stable. Therefore, the output from the pressurized column and the atmospheric column should be in a 1:1 ratio.
Generally, when the yield of the pressurized column is twice that of the atmospheric column, the quality of its mixture can meet the standards for first-class product. Under these conditions, the atmospheric pressure column can make full use of the waste heat from the pressurized column, eliminating the need for an external heating source
