The day before yesterday, I met up with a childhood friend and we talked about some of our elementary school teachers. At that time, every village had an elementary school, and most of the teachers were so-called private teachers from the village itself. Later, those private teachers were regularized as official employees; they are now retired, and their salaries are around 3,000 yuan, which is a considerable amount of money in rural areas. And those who actually enjoy such treatment now are not the best teachers we thought they were back then; only 2 teachers do so: one of them is a widow, who was generally considered to be a poor teacher ; He is a good teacher, but he is lame. The other teachers did not receive retirement benefits because, during the period of reform and opening up, they stopped working as teachers and started running small factories; however, none of them were successful in doing so. Now, their circumstances are vastly different from those of those two colleagues from back then! We exclaim: Isn’t this the real-life version of ‘loss turning into gain’?
A loss for one may turn out to be a blessing for another We should continue this story further; the spirit of daring to start businesses should be encouraged, otherwise how could there be so many innovations today?
The spirit of bold entrepreneurship should be encouraged, but for most people, perseverance in a career and striving for excellence should also be encouraged!
You mentioned conservative examples of success; let me give you an example of someone who was determined to work hard. One of my cousins and one of my uncles both graduated from high school. My cousin had to drop out due to financial difficulties, while my uncle completed a junior college degree. About 10 years later, my cousin ran an environmental landscaping company in Beijing that had assets worth millions, and he owned several private cars. My uncle also fared well – having graduated from university, he is now the principal of a middle school
After all, they have worked hard at school for so many years; these small rewards are well-deserved.
