I hope the experts here can answer my questions! Also, how should the reducer at the pump inlet be installed (is it a matter of horizontal or vertical alignment)?
The pump inlet diameter changes: flat at the bottom as mentioned above, or flat at the top otherwise
The diameters on both sides of the control valve are generally the same at the bottom; however, no concrete evidence for this can be found. It is likely correct that the diameter change occurs right next to the control valve. The diameter change in horizontal ducts should occur with a flat bottom, while in vertical ducts it should be concentric with different diameters – and there is a basis for this
The reducer pipes on both sides of the control valve should be concentric reducers, not eccentric reducers. When the pump’s suction inlet is horizontal, an eccentric reducer should be installed on the suction pipeline; When the suction pipe is inserted into the pump from top to bottom, it is advisable to use a reducing fitting with a flat bottom ; When the suction pipe enters the pump from bottom to top, it is advisable to use a top-flat reducing fitting; when the suction inlet is vertical, a concentric reducing fitting can be used ; When both the pump inlet and outlet are vertical, it is necessary to verify that the distance between them is greater than the pipe spacing after the reducer; otherwise, an eccentric reducer with flat ends facing each other should be used.
When the control valve is in a horizontal position, the diameter change is generally either flat at the bottom or of concentric different diameters
It should be level at the top to facilitate material discharge, preventing accumulation of material at the control valve and thus avoiding difficulties during maintenance.
The reducing sleeves at both ends of the control valve have a flat bottom to prevent liquid accumulation. Pump inlet reducer: When pumping horizontally or from below, the inclined edge of the reducer should be at the bottom (with the top flat); when the pump draws in liquid from above and the suction pipe is vertical, the inclined edge of the reducer should point upwards (with the bottom flat)
