Deputy Minister of Housing and Urban-Rural Development: Large-scale urbanization will continue for another 35 years. Yesterday, Qiu Baoxing, Deputy Minister of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, said at the launch event of the 5th International Conference on Intelligent, Green Buildings and Building Energy Efficiency as well as the New Technologies and Products Expo that large-scale construction in China will continue for another 30 to 35 years. Qiu Baoxing said that China is in a phase of large-scale urbanization and is also the world’s largest construction market, with its current construction volume accounting for more than half of the world’s total. Therefore, the construction industry remains the most important sector in China. The construction industry will drive the development of various sectors such as building materials and home furnishings, creating numerous job opportunities. “Therefore, the construction industry accounts for a large proportion of the **4 trillion in investments. ” Speaking about the large-scale construction of affordable housing this year, Qiu Baoxing said that energy efficiency, environmental protection, and green buildings are not symbols of high costs or advanced technology. The construction of affordable housing should reflect these characteristics even more, so that low-income families can live comfortably. He said that green building involves integrating buildings closely with nature, ensuring both light and ventilation, and the methods used to achieve this are quite simple. Qiu Baoxing revealed that they will adopt a reward-based approach instead of subsidies to encourage local authorities to build green housing. In other words, the building must meet green standards after it is completed before the central authorities will provide financial subsidies; otherwise, the local authorities will not receive any financial support.
